The Seattle Post-Intelligencer R.I.P.

Today marks the final edition of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer. From the paper itself:

The Hearst Corp. announced Monday that it would stop publishing the 146-year old newspaper, Seattle’s oldest business, and cease delivery to more than 117,600 weekday readers.

The company, however, said it would maintain seattlepi.com, making it the nation’s largest daily newspaper to shift to an entirely digital news product.

The troubled economy has badly wounded the already ailing newspaper industry. My hometown paper The Washington Post announced that it would be “folding” it’s business section into the “A” section. Hearst also announced a huge round of layoffs at my other hometown paper The San Francisco Chronicle.

More to come…
