Portland homeboy, Deep//Leap accomplice and all around awesome dude Jesse Malmed made this video for the “It Came From You” contest, which as I understand it is a contest of some sort. I totally neglected to post this in time to encourage people to vote. All I can do now is encourage you to appreciate. It’s all pretty great, but the magic which occurs about 3:55 in is perfect genius.

Check out piece by Current on pigeon racing. The pacing is excellent, and the deft storytelling highlights the engaging techniques that make Current a leader in journalism’s tech-transition.

I have to say I’m a little peeved at Current. For a news organization that is supposedly a groundbreaking alternative to the MSM, Current has been remarkably silent on the detainment, trial, conviction and sentencing of journalists Euna Lee, Laura Ling. Although Current chief Al Gore is reportedly in the running to head up the negotiations. The two Current journalists were reporting in North Korea at the time of their detainment and are essentially being held as bargaining chips by the North Korean government. I mean, even the flaccid San Francisco Chronicle weighed in on this one. Where’s Current with its sensitive, passionate reporting?

I went to see the San Francisco premiere of the new documentary about Anvil last weekend. It’s the story of the great metal band that came so close and never hit the big time. Totally amazing. The film ledes with footage of Anvil playing Japan with a bunch of other bands who go on to sell millions of records. Here’s Anvil performing the “theme song of heavy metal” on that trip more than 20 years ago.
